Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteering with REPAC

  • I'd like to help out. What volunteer opportunities does REPAC have?

There are many opportunities  to volunteer with REPAC depending on your time, talent, and interest!  Here are some of the ways:

  • Be a REPAC Board Member - each year, REPAC has spots to fill on the board for officers and for committee chairs.

  • Volunteer on a REPAC Committee.

  • Donate items or your time through the various sign-ups that get sent out for specific events during the year.

  • Work a shift or two selling beer at a Durham Bulls game to raise money for REPAC.

REPAC Events

  • What is the Welcome Picnic I've heard about?

In previous years, the Welcome Picnic was a social event sponsored by REPAC and held the Sunday before school, which provided an opportunity to introduce incoming freshmen and their families to faculty, other students and their families.  As the program has grown in size (with 140 new students starting in each freshman cohort) it is no longer logistically feasible to hold the event as in the past.  For the past few years, REPAC has held a Welcome Event in conjunction with the RHS Open House as a time to welcome families to the program and engage in some of the critical elements that made the picnics so successful.

  • What is Speaker Day?

Speaker Day occurs twice during the school year, on a Friday, generally in October and February.

On Speaker Day, students are exposed to various career opportunities in engineering and engineering related fields.  Over the years, there has been a wide variety of guest speakers, including engineers, architects, employees from the city's traffic department, construction company project managers, educators, and recent RHS PLTW program graduates who are currently in college.

Students who are in engineering classes in the current semester attend the Speaker Day presentations during their class time.  Students who are not currently enrolled in an engineering class, or wish to also attend the second session of the day, are encouraged to attend if their schedule allows (i.e. if they have teacher permission for the class they will be missing).  Passes are provided to student who wish to be excused from another class to attend the program.

  • What is the Senior Celebration?

The Senior Celebration is a dinner event which takes place on a Friday evening during the last few weeks of school.  All of the senior engineering students and their families are invited to attend as well as the engineering faculty.  This is an opportunity for the seniors to celebrate their time together.  Engineering program-specific senior superlatives are presented on this evening.
